Community Service

One of the ways that the Manoogian School supports students in their character development and commitment is through our required 40 hours of community service that all high school students complete by graduation. Our students volunteer at churches, libraries and sports clubs. Many have served in healthcare settings at Providence Hospital and Beaumont Hospital, while others volunteer to help at school functions like our parent-student conferences and open houses.

National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society Community Service Opportunities

National Honor Society (grades 10-12) and National Junior Honor Society (grades 7-9) members participate in community service opportunities both inside and outside of school. Some examples include:

  • Annual NHS fall food drive with proceeds going to Food Pantry
  • Both NHS and NJHS participate in field trips to local food pantries, volunteering to assist with the packaging and distribution of food to those in need.
  • NHS tutoring individually or in small groups to any interested students in middle school and high school
  • Monthly mentoring in elementary classrooms (NJHS)
  • Weekly recycling initiatives at the school.

Athletics

Organized athletics are currently offered at the high school level at the Manoogian School through the MSHAA-Michigan High School Athletic Association.

We also run recreational spring programs for our Middle School students, to help them develop their fundamental skills through soccer, basketball, and volleyball. High school sports activities include:

  • Varsity and junior varsity basketball
  • Cross-country and track
  • Volleyball
  • Soccer

Internships

At the Manoogian School, we prepare our students for college and careers by setting them up for success while they are with us.

One way we do this is through participation in the Detroit Economic Club’s Career Readiness Academy. This 7-month program provides our students access to DEC members who help them with career exploration and navigation skills. This includes lessons on the use of LinkedIn, resume preparation, personal financial management and networking skills. Strong mentor and mentee relationships are formed through this effort.

High School students are invited to participate in Detroit Economic Club events and meetings throughout the year, including onsite career seminars titled “Detroit Economic Club 101.”
Additionally, 20 Manoogian students participated in the summer research camp at Wayne State University Mechanical Engineering Department this summer.

Clubs and Teams

The Manoogian School offers students a variety of extracurricular options, including Engineering, Robotics, and Automotive Clubs.

Our elementary school robotics team competes in the FIRST LEGO League.
Our middle school robotics team competes statewide and has earned several accolades, including an Inspire Award and participation in Michigan State University’s robotics competition, as well as Robofest at Lawrence Technological University. Middle school students also engage in the Engineering Society of Detroit’s Future City Competition.

High school students participate in the Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association (OCCRA) and FIRST Robotics. The high school automotive team builds an electric car from scratch for the annual SquareOne Automotive competition at Kettering University.

These activities enable students to develop their technical skills and inspire interest in engineering careers, fostering a practical understanding of automotive and robotics principles. Students can begin participating in our robotics team as early as 5th grade.

Spirit Wear

Show us your spirit! We’ve set up a Spirit Wear shop where you can purchase custom Manoogian School t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jerseys, bags, backpacks and and more. Visit the site frequently as they often have special promotions and discounts.

Senior Trip to Armenia

Every two years, juniors and seniors at The Manoogian School participate in a biennial international travel experience focused on Armenian culture. Whenever possible, this trip takes them to Armenia, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the sites and cultural activities they have studied throughout their time at our school.
